*** I use an Epson ET-8550 Color Printer, set to the highest quality output – please check your printer settings and follow the instructions with what products you are using.

There are a lot of options when printing rugs!

You can print on most any type of paper and then cut out. My favorite is the Velour Paper!

For a thicker rug:

Option 1: Print design on Velour paper. Then glue onto felt for backing. Color sides with marker to match. I use the Posca Markers. (Remember that a black “sharpie” has a very purple tint.) This gives more of a pile look to finished rug with vibrant colors. However, it cannot get wet!

Option 2: Print on fabric and then stick to felt, using iron-on Fusible Web. Then color the edge of the felt with marker to match rug colors. You could also use colored felt to match instead of coloring edge. This option gives a little less color and you see the weave of the material.

Option 3: Print design on iron-on transfer. Then iron onto felt for backing. Color sides with marker to match. – This gives a satin look to finished rug, not as vibrant. *I would use white felt for this also because typical iron-on does not work with dark felt colors.

Update: I decided that I wanted to add a bit more to my rugs, so I glued on some cotton trim:

I sandwiched the trim between the top “rug” paper and the bottom felt and used Aleene’s Turbo Tacky Glue.
