Trip to National Building Museum

So many minis in a grand building!

National Building Museum. 401 F St NW, Washington, DC 20001 nbm.org

My daughter and I took a trip to the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. The building is absolutely beautiful, and the giant columns were breathtaking in scale. If you love architecture, you must add this to your itinerary while in the city.

We spent a couple of hours looking at all of the amazing exhibits. I am not sure which was my favorite! I won’t dive too deep into each one, but I did take a lot of pictures! This is just a small fraction of what they have.

BUILDING STORIES

BRICK CITY (Legos) by Warren Elsmore – The Union Station had over 180,000 bricks and took more than 300 hours to build!!!

MINI MEMORIES was an exhibit of souvenirs of building from around the world.

HOUSE AND HOME had a couple of fabulous dollhouses and also a number of architectural models.

VISABLE VAULT: Open Collections Storage showcases a broad range of artifacts from the Museum’s permanent collection, highlighting America’s architectural and design heritage.

Another fabulous attribute to this museum is that even if you cannot attend in person or you just want to look up an item in their collection, everything is in a database! Online Collections | National Building Museum “Our goal is to eventually digitize and make available here the approximately 300,000 photographic images and negatives, 130,000 architectural prints and drawings, 100 linear feet of documents, and over 20,000 objects in our permanent collection. The cataloging of our permanent collection is an ongoing process and we are always learning and adding new information.” Make sure to take a look.

Please let me know in the comments if you have been to the National Building Museum or plan on a visit. Also, if there is a place you think others should check out, please add that too!

Miniatures definitely play a huge part at the National Building Museum and it is great that you had a chance to visit and write about your experiences.

I am so honored to have my “Petite Princess Exhibit”on display in their newly opened Visible Vault. Did you have a chance to see my 1964 Petite Princess Store Display, 1965 Princess Patti Doll House, and 1966 Ideal Vinyl Dollhouse full of Petite Princess pieces?

Finally, you can see all the Petite Princess donations by typing “Petite Princess” into the “online collections” bar. Thanks for this article bringing attention to our “World of Minis!”

Oh, Linda, that is fabulous!!! Yes, I loved seeing all of the pieces! I will have to say that I felt like a little girl in a toy shop. My daughter (in her 30’s) was with me and she jokingly told me to calm down, lol. But, she new how happy it made me. Thank you for sharing your treasures with everyone!
